GARDEN GROVE - Shane DeCillo scored four touchdowns and Trabuco Hills dominated on both sides of the ball enroute to a 45-6 victory over Pacifica in a CIF-SS Southwest Division playoff game Friday night at Bolsa Grande High.
The Mustangs (11-1), champions of the Sea View League, registered five plays of 30 yards or more in the first half and forced four turnovers to advance to the semifinals next week against Tustin.
“We made a promise to ourselves in the locker room after last years’ loss in the semifinals not to suffer that type of loss again,” said DeCillo, who rushed for 133 yards. “We feel this is the team that can go all the way and now we are in the hunt.”
The Mustangs marched 65 yards in five plays on their first possession to take a 7-0 lead. A.J. Josue 48-yard pass play set up DeCillo’s 5-yard TD run.
After a Mariners turnover, DeCillo broke a 45-yard run that led to his 4-yard TD run. Still in the first quarter, Josue completed a 33-yard pass to Chris Simonton, who caught the ball between two defenders and got to the 1-yard line, losing his helmet in the process. On the next play, Dylan Buononato scored from a yard out, giving the Mustangs a 21-0 first-quarter lead.
Simonton had six catches for 143 yards.
A long pass play from Josue to Tommy Smith led to Simonton’s 13-yard TD run in the second quarter. Mitch Murar booted a 31-yard field goal as Trabuco Hills led 31-0 at halftime
Decillo added TD runs of 34 and 10 yards in the second half.
The Mustangs have won nine consecutive games and have outscored their playoff opponents 98-6.
The Mustangs intercepted Mario Nava three times in the first half – twice by Adam Gann and once by JB Torsy.
Luther Tolbert led Pacifica (6-5-1) with 82 yards rushing. He scored the Mariners’ lone touchdown late in the game.
