Joe Mitchell

Position: 
Outside Linebackers

Coach Joe Mitchell comes to us from Dana Hills High School. In his 2 years at Dana Hills, he was the head of the Strength and Conditioning Program, Linebackers Coach, and Co-Defensive Coordinator. Coach Mitchell played at El Modena High School where he was an All-County Linebacker in 2002. He then played under Coach Scott Orloff at Orange Coast College where he was an All-Mission Conference Linebacker. He continued his playing career at Northern Arizona University where he received the Keith O’ Niel Linebacker Award.

Sean White

Position: 
Defensive Tackles

With four years of coaching experience under his clipboard, Coach White begins his first season on the Mustang staff coaching the Varsity defensive ends. Additionally, he will serve as the JV Defensive Coordinator. He spent his last season as a Varsity linebacker coach at Aliso Niguel High School. He is a graduate of El Toro High School where he earned the Most Inspirational player Award his senior year. He went on to play football for two years at Saddleback College where he earned the Jerry D Award, also awarded to the Most Inspirational player.

George Bonanno

Tight Ends

A seasoned veteran, Coach Bonanno brings 23 years of knowledge and experience coaching high school football to his first season on the Mustang football staff. His coaching career includes St. John Bosco (1987-1994), Mater Dei High School (1995-2001) including three CIF Championships and one National Championship, Offensive Coordinator at Tesoro High School (2002-2006) winning back to back CIF Championships, Mater Dei (2007) and most recently Santa Margarita (2008-2009). Coach Bonanno will coach the Varsity tight ends, assist with the offensive game plan and coordinate the JV offense.

Dave Frazeur

Wide Receivers

For over 20 years, Coach Frazeur has dedicated himself to coaching football from Pop Warner to College. Most recently, he coached the freshmen wide receivers at Trabuco Hills High School. Additionally, he is the sprint coach for the THHS boys track team. Frazeur’s most unique football experience happened in 1996 when, at age 33, Frazeur played wide receiver for Saddleback College and helped the team to win a National Championship. Frazeur’s two sons, David and Christopher, have had outstanding college careers in both football and track & field.

Mike McGuire

Inside Linebackers
Coach McGuire is entering his 33rd year of coaching. He played college football at California Lutheran University and was a member of the 1971 NAIA Division 2 National Championship Team. After graduating in 1972, he spent 3 years in the army. Coach McGuire began teaching and coaching high school football in 1977. He has coached at all levels and has been an assistant and varsity head coach. He comes to Trabuco Hills High School after spending the last two years at Dana Hills High School coaching linebackers at the varsity level.

Robert Lee

Defensive Backs
This is Coach Lee's first year coaching varsity defensive backs. He has coached basketball for the past four years, and will coach sophomore basketball this year. He played four years of football at Oak Park High School, Illinois, followed by two years at Lindenwood University, Missouri, and then four years of semi-pro football.

Vinnie Lopez

Offensive Line
Coach Lopez possesses over 16 years of coaching and playing experience, after graduating from the University of Wyoming where he played offensive line. Vinnie began his coaching career at his alma mater Esperanza High School. He then went on to become the Defensive Coordinator and Offensive Line coach at Rancho Alamitos High School, where he helped guide the team to 3 playoff appearances and a league championship. During his 4 year tenure at Rancho, he had numerous all league players and 3 linebackers collect League Defensive MVP honors, as 2 of them went on to receive All CIF accolades.

Joe Kauo

Asst. Head Football Coach / Defensive Ends

Joe Kauo joins the Trabuco Hills Varsity Football staff and brings with him over 25 years of coaching experience. Coach Kauo returns to varsity football after coaching the defensive line at Orange Coast College for the past three years. Prior to OCC, Coach Kauo spent 9 years at Dana Hills High School and 3 years at Santa Ana Valley High School. In 1995, Coach Kauo helped Santa Ana Valley High School to the Century League title and at Dana Hills, he contributed to CIF playoff appearances in 1997 and 2000. Coach Kauo also had coaching stints at Sonora HS, El Dorado HS and Diamond Bar HS.

Kevin Purtell

Running Backs & Strength/Conditioning Coordinator

Coach Purtell holds a Bachelors degree from USC and is the Mustang’s running backs coach as well as the Strength and Conditioning and Speed Training Coach. Coach Purtell has over 20 years of football coaching and playing experience at all levels including basketball and track and field, with his own football career culminating as a defensive back in the NFL. Coach Purtell also owns and operates a speed training company.

Garrett Gray

Varsity Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks
Garrett Gray enters his seventh year of high school football and his first with Trabuco Hills High School. Last year, Coach Gray helped Aliso Niguel as their Offensive Coordinator. He came over to the program after spending the spring at Orange Coast Junior College where he coached the tight ends. The previous season, Coach Gray helped lead the Tesoro Titans to the Pac 5 finals. Coach Gray spent two seasons at Tesoro High School working with the wide receivers on the J.V. and Varsity Level.
